Renovation of Church in Radomysl Nad Sanem
We have completed the renovation works at the Filial Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, commonly known as the church “at the Apparition” (na Zjawieniu), in Radomyśl nad Sanem. Over the past few months, we have worked on restoring the walls and polychrome decorations, the altars, and the Stations of the Cross. We also reconstructed and supplemented the marble-effect painting, wood-graining, and metallic finishes imitating gold.
A particularly important part of the project was the conservation of the polychrome decorations designed by Prof. Jan Budziło — an artist and interior architect who later became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Budziło came from nearby Antoniów and also attended school in Radomyśl nad Sanem, which gives his presence in this interior a particularly interesting local dimension.
As part of the renovation, we cleaned and restored the walls and polychrome decorations while preserving their character and original composition. In those areas of the walls where a chalk-based paint system had previously been used, we switched to a silicate-based system selected in cooperation with a representative of KEIM.
This place is also especially close to us for family reasons. The main stained-glass window was funded years ago by Stanisław Dybek, Ewa’s grandfather’s brother, together with his daughters Barbara and Maria, in memory of Felicja Dybek. It is therefore all the more meaningful that, many years later, we were able to return here with our own work and, in a way, add another chapter to the history of this place.
We would like to thank Father Witold, the parish priest, for his trust, support and kindness, as well as Marek Turek, Krzysiek, Grzesiek and Zbyszek for their work and assistance throughout the project.
Several months of work, many different stages, and a great deal of satisfaction with the final result.
The polychrome decorations were reconstructed on the basis of the original compositions by Jan Antoni Budziło (1908–1983), who was born in nearby Antoniów. He attended school, among other places, in Radomyśl nad Sanem, and later studied painting and interior architecture in Kraków. In later years, he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Dean of the Faculty of Interior Architecture, and Vice-Rector of the Academy. He was also the author of numerous polychrome decorations and comprehensive designs for church interiors.
